Happy Birthday MaryCatherine

Our "caboose" turns thirteen today!!!!! THAT is hard to believe. What a sweet and pleasant child she is. She is an advanced horse rider and hopes to have her own horse one day.
One goal she has wanted to reach for the last four or five years was to have two parakeets. That goal was met yesterday when Dennis and Katrina(yes, after the hurricanes) were welcomed into our family. Needless to say she has been doting on them and caring for them since their arrival. She surely takes after her dad when it comes to her love of animals. They both have that quiet, reasuring way about them that puts an animal instantly at ease. All of the riding instructors that she has had say of her that she has "quiet hands."
At six years of age she announced that she wanted to be a Veterinarian. We have been able, through our homeschooling, to foster that interest through science and biology, hands on activities, and family excursions. Now at age thirteen the interest is even stronger with talk of what University she might attend.

Happy Birthday to all of you out there who will be celebrating that milestone from childhood to those teenage years. May God bless you and keep you now and always.

Katrina Cleanup...Where We Are Now

Our neighborhood is looking better. Far from normal, but better. Everywhere you go you see the huge debris trucks being filled up and moving on to the dumpsite.
Blue tarps are still a profound statement all across our part of the world. Our town is not quite so crowded anymore and our newest residents have made themselves at home.
Life is moving on as we regain bits of what is being called the "new" normal.

All the best to you,
Penny

Change of Pace...A Birthday in the House

Sweet Sixteen...no hurricane talk, just Birthday preparations. Time to let the kids be kids. I certainly have enjoyed the distraction of getting ready for the party. After all that everyone has been through, some time just to have fun is called for! We wish our daughter a wonderful day.
She has planned, from the invitations to decorations, an Oscar(Academy Award) theme party. She has done a marvelous job with the menu and even Oscar shaped cookies! She is amazing!

Hope all of my regular readers are doing grand!

Best regards,
Penny

Angels of Mercy

In the past week, help came to our neighborhood in the form of a man with a front end loader. He traveled all the way from Wisconsin asking nothing for himself. All he wanted was to help those in need. For the rest of the day after his arrival, he and my son worked to finish our yard and then headed over to our neighbor to clear a mass of debris out of their backyard. They worked in temperatures of ninety plus degrees. It took nearly two days to get all the mess down to the street.
In another day more "angels" arrived. This man(the formers son) and his two sons came from Indiana to help. They are fellow homeschoolers who left their home and family to be of service to us. They are truly putting into practice the Corporal Works of Mercy.
We are so blessed, and our good Lord has shown us mercy and filled us with His grace. We are so grateful for all that we have been given. We pray for these generous people and all those who helped to get them here. May God keep them ever in His care and may the Blessed Mother protect them from every danger.
